Sassier Spoon

Sassier Spoon is a website of college inspired recipes to encourage students to eat healthier, cook from scratch, and eliminate food waste.

Challenge: College students not eating healthy.

Role: Product Designer & Front End Developer

During my undergrad, I enjoyed cooking. Every time I decided to cook a full dinner, it was really expensive, and a lot of the ingredients went wasted. Now I cook from scratch every night, but I see my roommates eating the same things day after day: ramen, chicken, hot dogs, pasta, and TV frozen dinners.

Research

How might we encourage college students to eat healthier?

Impact goal:

Eliminate food waste, cook from scratch, and eat healthier.

Possible solutions:

Meal kits like Hello Fresh.

Meal packs like Sorted Club.

Dining hall take-out.

Or an app/website that provides cost-efficient recipes that take classic college meals and turns them healthier. Providing the user with a shopping list, required equipment, and the estimated cooking and prep times.

Constraints:

  • The number one concern for college students when it comes to food is budgeting.
  • Other constraints include skill and cooking equipment.
  • As well as the time it takes to cook from scratch.
  • The biggest constraint would be creating motivation to transform the meals and not just try it once and decide it is too much effort.
